We began with the coarse 400 grit pad, carefully applying it to the marble surfaces with a little water. This initial step is crucial, as it effectively removes the etching caused by wear and tear. Moving forward, we progressed to the medium 800-grit pad, followed by the fine 1500-grit pad, and finally, the very fine 3000-grit pad. Each pad serves to restore the marble's shine and luster progressively. To ensure the best results, we employed a handheld buffing machine, rinsing the surface thoroughly in-between each pad application to eliminate any slurry produced.
The last step in the burnishing process involved employing a unique technique known as the spray burnish. With just a spray of water, we gently used the 3000-grit pad, simultaneously restoring the shine and leaving the marble dry. This dryness is vital for the next step of the restoration process – the application of a sealer.
For this particular project, we chose to use Tile Doctor Ultra Seal, an advanced impregnating sealer that penetrates the marble's pores, providing robust protection from within. It is essential to highlight that Ultra Seal is a natural look sealer, which means it doesn't alter the color of the stone.
To apply the sealer, we relied on a soft cloth, carefully distributing it over the countertop surfaces. We left it to settle for five minutes, allowing it to work its magic, and then gently polished off the excess sealer with another soft cloth. This meticulous process not only enhances the marble's appearance but also ensures its longevity.
As part of our dedication to achieving a truly rejuvenated look, we also replaced the silicone sealant around the bath and wash basins. Attention to detail is paramount to us, and we wanted to leave no stone unturned in our quest to bring life back to our client's impressive bathroom.
